Sewing the cushions

This weekend I will start sewing the cushions and curtains. Thought I would post a before and after. The curtains should be easy....I've done them before. The cushions...not so sure. I also plan on making a dog bed that fits in the sunken floor. Which would be a 3 X 3 dog bed...and 9 inches deep. I need to find some very stiff foam so the old dog can move around without tripping in the dorf.

The Cost of A New Metzendorf

Thank-you Gary for sending me the info and pictures of your Metzendorf! I will have to scan and post what you sent me. It appears that my Metzendorf, a Model 15 T.M. would have cost $1,260 in 1962. In 2008 dollars, that would be about $8,300. I don't think you could find a new trailer this size....for this much $$$$...surely not made as well!

Upholstry cushions

I shopped around a lot for foam...and think I found the best place. Ikea. They sell foam mattresses. I needed a 3/4 mattress. So, I bought a full and will just cut of the excess. I decided to get a single mattress to make the dinette cushions. The foam is nice quality.

Ticking: 73 % cotton, 27 % polyesterFire-retardant interliner: 100 % cottonComfort material: Highly resilient polyurethane foam (cold foam) 35 kg/cu.m., Polyester filling, Polyester filling.

The cover zips...so I can easily take the foam out and cut the mattress down to a 3/4 size.

The 1962 Metzendorf

Here are more photos of the camper...the befores. Sadly... kids used it as a club house and there is magic marker on some of the doors. The walls have the original paint and the windows are in really great shape. I have to replace the flooring. The length is 15 feet...but that includes the tongue. The one propane tank is original...but I will probably get rid of it because I can't get it filled. The cabin area is 12 feet. There is a closet for the portapotty. The camper runs on propane and electric. The Dometic fridge, stove and furnace are original. It also has a 12volt system.

The trailer is really dirty on the outside...but the skin is in amazing shape...virtually no dents.

Cabinet Hardware

Some of the hinges were pretty rusted...so I went to Lowes to see if they had a match. They had almost the same exact hinge...just not as well made. I decided to replace the hinges with a silver hinge and repaint the handles. Most of the detail in the trailer is aluminum, with the exception of the antique brassy light covers. I will keep the original hinges, in case I change my mind.

Finishing the doors!

The large door below is the new door... the grain isn't as nice as the older doors... but it is ok. I may replace some other smaller doors that were badly damaged due to the marker... but thought I would wait to make that decision. Jordan kept me company.
